Music
At Landau Forte Academy QEMS we regard music specialism as giving students, parents, staff and the community an opportunity to:
- Have the use of the excellent facilities
- Have enrichment access, no matter what their level is.
- Have quality teaching in every classroom, so that each student can fulfill their potential
Every Child Matters
Our philosophy is to aim to provide the very best and diverse music education and opportunity for all students, no matter what their circumstances are and what their attainment is.
Two main focuses
Teaching and Learning
- We are committed to raising standards of achievement for all students.
- We will promote a creative educational culture which embraces new technologies and vocational approaches.
- We will explore how music can enhance learning in other subjects.
Community Partnership
- We will develop an active learning community that involves other primary, secondary, special schools and community groups.
We will work closely with local, national and international music based industries and institutions.
Students at Landau Forte Academy QEMS have the opportunity to study music across the world in a practical way using a variety methods including group work, independent work and personalised learning so that each student enjoys all the processes involved and makes the maximum progress they can.
At Key Stage 4 they can study GCSE Music or NCFE Music Technology which develops their practical and compositional skills. Music Technology is an accredited two GCSE course and allows students to study dj ing and mixing as well as the recording media environment.
The focus on independent learning underpins work done at A Level, where the students can study A Level as well as A Level Music Technology.
All courses from Key Stage 3 to Key Stage 5 have a huge practical bias and develop students personal enjoyment of music.
Extra curricular music at Landau Forte Academy QEMS involves many students of varying abilities. There is an opportunity for all tastes and abilities from choirs to bands to pop based activities.
A large amount of instruments are taught to over 200 students who are entered for Associated Board exams as well as playing in many ensembles. These students play in school concerts, in the community and at county level.
We are proud to say that Landau Forte Academy QEMS students have been involved in music making across the county as well as in large concert halls like The Royal Albert Hall and Symphony Hall.
